About
Portland Tattoo Shop - Tattoos Made Rite
The fine art of tattooing, by John Biswell
With over 30 years of experience, I offer a focused portfolio of original flash tattoos, designed and tattooed with care in a private studio in Portland, Maine. My work blends Japanese and American traditional influences with botanical, blackwork, and bold visual storytelling.
Each flash design is hand-drawn and tattoo-ready—no revisions, no consultations, just confident, finished art you can book directly online.
I am currently not accepting custom work or large freehand tattoos, allowing me to fully concentrate on delivering the highest quality pieces to clients who trust my vision.
Think of it as commissioning art—on your skin.

A Note About Studio Availability
At Portland Tattoo Shop, we’re committed to offering a unique, high-end tattoo experience with exceptional artistry and personalized care. Please note, the studio is planned to be open for a limited time—approximately one year—though this may vary depending on demand and interest.
This approach allows me to focus fully on delivering the highest quality work and service during this special chapter. If you’re interested in securing a spot or exploring the exclusive flash collections, now is the perfect time to connect.
A Legacy of Craftsmanship: Over 16 Years of Made Rite Tattoo
Before opening this private studio, I owned and operated Made Rite Tattoo as a brick-and-mortar shop for over 16 years. It was more than just a tattoo parlor—it was a creative space where community, skill, and dedication came together to form lasting connections and exceptional work.
Though the original location has since closed, the Made Rite brand lives on through a curated collection of tattoo-inspired merchandise and apparel, available online for those who want to carry a piece of the legacy.
